MicrophoneThis Friday night, Jan. 25, the weekly Open Mic at the Barnes & Noble at NMSU Bookstore & Café in Las Cruces will feature Cody Brown, Overcome of Las Cruces, Rich Salaz, and Mike Cross. The show is free from 5-8 p.m. and there will be beverage specials all night long.

Harness Your Dark Side: Mastering Jealousy, Rage, Frustration and Other Negative Emotions

The Barnes & Noble at NMSU Bookstore & Café in Las Cruces has added two more events to its calendar.

Al Graves, Ph.D. will present his title, “Harness Your Dark Side: Mastering Jealousy, Rage, Frustration and Other Negative Emotions,” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, in the 2nd floor northeast Living Room.

The following week, celebrate Amelia Bedelia’s 50th Birthday with a special children’s Story Time and bonnet-making workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 in the 2nd floor southeast Living Room.

Both events are free and open to the public. Barnes & Noble at NMSU is located at 1400 E. University Ave. All campus parking is free on the weekends. Please contact jkoliba@nmsu.edu to reserve a bookstore Living Room for your own event.

The 3rd Floor Bistro at the Danny Villanueva Victory Club

The 3rd Floor Bistro at the Danny Villanueva Victory Club is located in the NMSU Stan Fulton Athletics Center

Taos will continue to offer $4 lunches to anyone wearing crimson or NMSU-branded apparel from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Fridays.

The 3rd Floor Bistro at the Danny Villanueva Victory Club welcomes the Aggie community back from break with a special “Welcome Back Buffet” from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Choose from green chile & chicken enchiladas, calabacitas with cheese, Spanish rice, beans, fajitas with flour tortillas & jack cheese, pico de gallo, sour crème, chips & salsa, mixed greens salad with ranch or balsamic dressing, tres leches cake, and a beverage for just $10.99. Reservations are encouraged at 575-646-4763. Then from 5-7 p.m. that same day, explore China with a special Chinese-themed dinner at Taos Restaurant.

Then, on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, watch the big game while enjoying a free buffet of hot wings, chips & salsa, hotdogs, sub sandwiches, and desserts at The 3rd Floor Bistro at the Danny Villanueva Victory Club. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and service will continue until one hour after the game. There will also be a hot wing eating contest for a chance to win great prizes.

NMSU Spring & MLK Day Hours for Various Vendors

New Mexico State UniversityThe Spring 2013 Edition of the NMSU Campus Restaurant Guide is now available at http://bit.ly/2iNQR and will take affect beginning the first day of class, Jan. 17. Taos Restaurant returns to regular hours Sunday, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m., while the following locations will begin normal operations on Monday, Jan. 14: Corbett Center Student Union (CCSU) Food Court, Blake’s Lotaburger, College Canteen & Subway. To view the current Winter Break schedule, please visit http://bit.ly/13eJlcH. Locally-owned Mix Express, which opened this week at Frenger Food Court, will serve the same delicious food that the Las Cruces community has grown to love from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. These hours are subject to change and will be updated on the Restaurant Guide if new hours are indeed announced.

While most of the university will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, for Martin Luther King Day, Taos Restaurant, Corbett Corner, Aggie Express, The Player’s Grill and the Barnes & Noble at NMSU locations in Las Cruces and the main store at DACC will remain open. Also, NMSU Mail Services and the CCSU Post Office will be closed on MLK Day, but the Pan American Center Ticket Office will open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. in order to sell tickets to all Ticketmaster shows, including Stomp and The Harlem Globetrotters at Pan Am, “Our Town” at the Center for the Arts, Contemporary Choral Masterworks and Dido & Aeneas Trial by Jury at Atkinson Recital Hall, and Vans Warped Tour ’13 at the NMSU Intramural Field.

Author Readings & Signings

TowerOfILSerroheThe Barnes & Noble at NMSU Bookstore & Café in Las Cruces will host three free book readings & signings for the public during the month of January in its 2nd floor northeast Living Room beginning with NMSU Professor Emerita Christine E. Eber and her title, “The Journey of a Tzotzil-Maya Woman of Chiapas, Mexico” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19. The following Wednesday, Jan. 23, local author Anna Haman will present her work, “Everybody Loved Anna: A German Family’s Story of Confronting Social Normalcy” at 2 p.m. Then, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, RJ Mirabal, a retired, award-winning Los Lunas High School teacher, will read from his fantasy novel, “The Tower of Il Serrohe.”

Student Charge Account

BNNMSU_ID_StudyStudent Charge Accounts are available to qualifying students to make bookstore purchases of textbooks and school supplies, not exceeding $500, each fall and spring semester. These charges will be added to the student’s NMSU account and must be paid back to the University by the last day of classes each semester. To qualify, students must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours and owe NMSU less than $100 from a previous semester. Student Charge Account applications are now available at http://bit.ly/o0N1FZ. The approved Student Charge Account can be used Jan. 13-26, 2013. Applications must be renewed each semester.

All requested information on the application must be completed in order to qualify. Please allow up to 48 hours for your application to be processed. Purchases with this form of payment can be made in-store at the Barnes & Noble at NMSU locations in Las Cruces, Alamogordo, or at DACC. Online purchases can be made with this form of payment by selecting one of the aforementioned campuses from the drop-down menu at www.NMSUbookstore.com.

Not only will your Enhanced Aggie ID Card continue to grant you all of the perks that your regular Aggie ID Card features, but the Enhanced Aggie ID Card linked to a Wells Fargo College Checking account will also act as a Visa debit card. Make the transition before March 31, 2013, and receive a free unique water bottle that contains a special compartment for on-the-go items.

Vans Warped Tour ’13

Tickets are on sale now for the Las Cruces leg of Vans Warped Tour ’13, which arrives at NMSU’s Intramural Field on June 26, at the Pan American Center Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or online at Ticketmaster.com. The first 500 tickets sold will only cost $23.50 a piece and will include a Warped Tour compilation CD. The second batch of 500 tickets sold will only cost $28.50 and will also include a Warped Tour compilation CD. After the 1,000th ticket is sold, each ticket will then cost $35 through June 25. Day-of-show tickets on June 26 will cost $40. Ticket holders eligible for the free CD will be able to claim their gift at the Side One Dummy booth located at the concert. A valid ticket stub will need to be presented to obtain the CD.

Scholar Dollar$ Deadline Extended!!!

The deadline to submit a Scholar Dollar$ application for the Presidents Associate, High Achiever Leadership and Honors Excel scholarships has been extended to December 10th!!!

You have the opportunity to submit the general SD$ application until March 1st, however, the firm deadline for these top three scholarships has been extended for this year to December 10th!
